How to Use the Top Pages Report

  1. Connect your Google Search Console account and select the target property.
  2. Click Load Report — the tool fetches your top pages ranked by CTR and impression volume.
  3. Review the Top Pages by CTR panel: these pages already attract clicks efficiently. They are candidates for increasing content depth to capture more impressions.
  4. Review the Top Pages by Impressions panel: high impressions with low CTR signal pages that rank well but fail to attract clicks — prime targets for snippet optimisation.
  5. Click any page to see its top keywords — both by clicks and by impressions. Use these to identify primary and secondary topics for content expansion.
  6. Cross-reference with CTR Lens to prioritise pages where the CTR gap is widest relative to ranking position.

What Top Pages Tells You About Your SEO Health

The Top Pages report gives you a demand-side view of your organic performance. Unlike ranking trackers that show where you rank for pre-selected keywords, this report reveals what queries Google is actually sending traffic for — often surfacing opportunities you didn't deliberately target.

High-impression, low-CTR pages are your most actionable opportunities: Google already decided you are relevant for those queries. The only gap is in convincing users to click. A title rewrite can fix this without any new content or links.

High-CTR pages with moderate impressions show strong audience fit — but limited reach. Expanding these pages with related subtopics, adding schema markup, or building internal links from high-authority pages can push impressions up significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I see fewer pages than I expected?
GSC reports aggregate data for the selected date range (typically last 28 days by default). Pages that received zero impressions during that period won't appear. GSC also samples data for very large sites. Additionally, some pages may be filtered by Google if they are not indexed, blocked by robots.txt, or have a noindex tag.
What is the difference between clicks and impressions in GSC?
An impression is counted when your page appears in a search result that is visible to a user (even if they don't scroll to it). A click is counted when the user clicks your result and lands on your page. CTR (click-through rate) is clicks ÷ impressions × 100. Note that GSC counts impressions differently for different result types — for image pack or knowledge panels, rules differ from standard blue links.
How do I find quick wins using this report?
The fastest wins come from pages that: (1) rank on page 1 (average position 1–10) but have CTR below 3%, and (2) have at least 500 impressions/month. These pages need a better title and description — the traffic is already within reach. Use the keyword breakdown to understand what users are actually searching for and write your snippet to match that intent precisely.
