What is a SERP?

A SERP (Search Engine Results Page) is the page a search engine returns after a user submits a query. Modern SERPs go beyond the traditional "10 blue links" and include multiple content types and interactive features.

SERP Features

  • Featured Snippet — answer box at position zero
  • People Also Ask — expandable related questions
  • Knowledge Panel — info box on the right (desktop)
  • Local Pack — map and 3 local businesses for local queries
  • Image Pack — horizontal image row
  • Shopping Results — product listings with prices
  • Video Results — YouTube thumbnails
  • AI Overview — AI-generated answer (2024+)

Why SERP Analysis Matters

Before targeting a keyword, analyse its SERP to understand: what content type Google prefers, which features are present (and if you can capture them), how many ads appear, and what the competition looks like.
