Keyword Research Tools

๐Ÿงฐ
Alex opens his toolbox
"A good craftsman knows their tools. A bad craftsman buys all the tools, stares at an empty box, and watches YouTube tutorials instead."

Google Search Console โ€” The Mandatory Minimum (FREE)

GSC is a direct line to Google. It shows real queries bringing impressions and clicks to your site, positions, and CTR. This isn't keyword "research" โ€” it's data about what's already working.

โœ… Connect GSC first. It's mandatory for any SEO project and completely free.

Google Keyword Planner โ€” Built for Ads, Useful for SEO (FREE)

Google's official Ads tool. Shows search volume and advertiser competition. Data is aggregated into ranges, but this is the official source straight from Google.

Semrush โ€” The Industrial Combine (PAID)

One of the market leaders. Keyword data, competitor analysis, backlinks, technical audit all in one. Keyword Magic Tool is one of the best for expanding your keyword universe.

Ahrefs โ€” SEO Specialists' Favorite (PAID)

Especially powerful for backlink analysis. Keywords Explorer with Click Potential metric is unique. Content Gap feature finds keywords you're missing that competitors rank for.

Ubersuggest / KWFinder โ€” Good Starting Points (FREEMIUM)

More budget-friendly alternatives. Less data, but enough to start. KWFinder is particularly good at assessing keyword difficulty accurately.

Where to start:

1. Google Search Console (free, right now)
2. Google Keyword Planner (free, needs Ads account)
3. Semrush or Ahrefs (14-day trial)
4. KWFinder โ€” if you need a budget option

Alex wraps up
"Don't pay for Semrush AND Ahrefs simultaneously. Pick one. Add GSC. That covers 95% of tasks. Spend the saved money on creating content."
