What is Google Discover?
Google Discover (formerly Google Feed) is a personalised content recommendation feed available on Android, in the Google app, and on google.com (mobile). Discover shows content proactively based on users' search history, browsing activity, and location — without requiring a search query. Google has stated Discover reaches over 800 million users per month.
How to Optimise for Google Discover
- High-quality, large images — minimum 1200px wide. Use the
max-image-preview:largerobots meta tag to allow large thumbnails. - Compelling, honest titles — Discover penalises clickbait; titles must accurately reflect content
- E-E-A-T signals — author bylines, expertise signals, and trust matter more in Discover than standard search
- Timely and evergreen content — both breaking topical content and evergreen content matching current trends perform well
- Page experience — Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS); Discover users are mobile-only
Monitoring Discover Performance
Google Search Console has a dedicated Discover performance report showing impressions, clicks, and CTR. Data only appears when traffic exceeds privacy thresholds.
