How Users Search

"Alex opened Google Analytics. 68% of traffic: mobile. The CEO stared: 'People actually buy on their phones?'"

Understanding how and where users search is the foundation of any SEO strategy.

How People Actually Search

📱 Mobile Won

More than half of all searches happen on mobile. Google uses mobile-first indexing — it indexes and ranks based on the mobile version first. A bad mobile site loses in search.

🎙️ Voice Search Changes Query Format

When people talk to assistants they use full phrases: "Where can I get cheap dinner near me?" instead of "restaurant cheap nearby". Voice queries are longer and more conversational.

⚡ Zero-Click Searches

Google often answers directly in results: weather, rates, definitions. The user gets the answer without visiting any site. These are zero-click searches.

Around 65% of searches end without a click. You can rank #1 and still lose clicks to featured snippets.

🔄 Long-Tail Queries

"Buy red Nike Air Max size 10" is a buyer. "Sneakers" is just browsing. Long specific queries get less traffic but much higher conversion.
