Default filters and exports
Default filters apply a saved set of conditions across your properties; exports take tables and larger data sets out of the workspace. This page lists the options, the regex rules and the limits that come from Google.

Two ways to avoid repeating yourself
Default filters save a set of conditions once and apply it across your properties. Exports take a table or a data set out of the workspace. Both rest on what Search Console lets you request, so their limits are Google’s limits.
Default filters
Open “Default Filters” in the account menu and create a filter, for example “Country is United States”, that is then applied automatically to your reports. Each filter has:
| Part | Options |
|---|---|
| Condition on Query or Page | contains, equals, does not contain, does not equal, matches regex (text up to 500 characters) |
| Condition on Country or Device | is any of, is none of; devices are Desktop, Mobile and Tablet |
| Match | all conditions must be true |
| Branded queries | all, branded only or non-branded only, using your brand terms |
| Search type | all, or one type such as web |
Because the filters are combined with “and”, adding a condition narrows the data. This matches how the Search Console API works: filters in a group must all be true (API reference).
Regular expressions
Regex conditions use the RE2 syntax that Google’s API documents, and an expression can be at most 4,096 characters. RE2 has no look-ahead, look-behind or back-references (RE2 syntax), so a pattern copied from another tool may be rejected. Test a pattern on a small period first and check that the row count is what you expect.
Report presets
Several reports offer ready filters: Questions, 4+ words, 1–2 words, Comparison, Transactional, Informational, Navigational, Local, Negative, Years, PDF only and URLs with parameters. They are keyword patterns, not understanding of intent, so they are a first cut and will miss and mislabel some queries. The word lists are written for English, Russian and Ukrainian queries, and the Local preset lists Ukrainian city and country words only, so it is of no use for other markets. Create your own filter when a preset does not fit.
Exports from reports
- Copy puts the visible table on the clipboard.
- CSV downloads the table.
- HTML report saves an interactive report you can send.
- PNG saves a chart as an image.
An export holds the rows after the active filters. Search Console itself truncates the interface export to 1,000 rows (export help); the workspace loads more through the API, but still at most what the API returns.
GSC Full Export
The GSC Full Export tool downloads larger Search Console extracts as CSV.
- Dimensions: query, page, date, country, device and search appearance.
- Search type: web, image, video, news, discover or Google News.
- Data state: final only, or all including fresh data.
- Filters: an optional country and device.
- Size: the tool pages through the API 25,000 rows at a time and stops at 50,000 rows for a period.
- Daily partition: with the date dimension, it can query each day separately, which gets around the per-request ceiling for large sites.
The file starts with a byte-order mark so that spreadsheets open non-English characters correctly.
If something looks wrong
| Symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| A regex is rejected | it uses syntax RE2 does not support, or is longer than 4,096 characters |
| No rows after a filter | conditions are combined with “and”; remove one and compare |
| Export has fewer rows than expected | the API returned its capped rows; use a daily partition or a shorter period |
| “Daily partition export requires the date dimension” | add date to the dimensions |
Filters and exports, answered
Can I combine filters with “or”?
Not within one filter; conditions are combined with “and”. Use “is any of” for several countries or devices.
What regex syntax is supported?
RE2, as Google documents for the API.
How many rows can I export?
The interface export is limited to 1,000 rows by Search Console; the full-export tool stops at 50,000 rows per period.
