How to choose an SEO MCP server: measured vs modelled data

Roundups rank SEO MCP servers by brand. This guide gives four questions that work for any server, then sets out what each vendor’s own documentation says about data, sign-in and limits, and discloses that SEOKit builds one of the servers it mentions.

Judge a server by four questions, not a logo

Most roundups rank servers by brand. A better test is four questions: Is the data measured or modelled? Search Console and Analytics report what happened on your site; backlink and keyword suites report their own estimates. Where do the credentials live? What does one call return? Raw rows invite arithmetic over partial data; an aggregated answer with a row count does not. What does the plan meter? Units, rows or a licence.

Whatever you pick, keep a person able to deny a tool call (MCP guidance) and label every figure in a report as measured or modelled.

What each documentation page actually says

ServerDataHow it runs and signs inWhat the vendor documents about limits
Google Analytics MCP (repository)Measured: GA4 reportsLocal, run with pipx; Application Default Credentials with the analytics.readonly scope; labelled ExperimentalFree, Apache-2.0; needs the Admin and Data APIs enabled in a Cloud project
Search ConsoleMeasured: Search ConsoleWe found no Google-published server in Google’s developer, help or blog pages on 8 October 2026; community servers and SEOKit existGoogle offers a read-only scope (webmasters.readonly) and a read/write one (authorize requests)
Ahrefs (help article)Modelled: Ahrefs indexRemote only; local setup is no longer supportedLite and higher; 200,000 / 800,000 / 2,000,000 units a month and 100 / 250 / 500 rows per request on Lite / Standard / Advanced; no extra fee
Semrush (developer docs)Modelled: Semrush dataStreamable HTTP only, OAuth by default or an API key50,000 units included on listed plans, packages of 2M to 20M on others; no separate MCP fee
DataForSEO (repository)Provider API datanpx locally (login and password) or a hosted endpoint (OAuth by default)Apache-2.0; the repository page gives no prices
Screaming Frog (user guide)Measured: your own crawlHeadless over STDIO or visible over Streamable HTTP; database storage modePaid licence, version 24; Node tools off by default; licensed user only
Chrome DevTools MCP (repository)Measured: lab tests in your browserLocal; exposes the browser’s content to the clientUsage statistics on by default; URLs may go to the CrUX API unless disabled

SEOKit’s own MCP server, which we build, serves Search Console and GA4 data with 60 calls a minute and 1,000 an hour per user. Weigh it with the same four questions.

Work out the row cap before you buy

If a plan caps rows per request, the cap sets how many calls a report needs. Reading 1,000 query rows with a cap of 100 rows takes at least 10 requests; with 250 it takes at least 4; with 500, at least 2. Multiply that by the number of pages or properties you check, then compare it with the units your plan includes. Treat the result as a lower bound: the documentation does not say how many units a call costs, so measure one real call before you schedule anything.

A decision table

You needStart with
Your own clicks, queries and indexinga Search Console server with a read-only scope
Sessions and conversionsthe GA4 server
Competitor links and keyword estimatesa suite server you already pay for, labelled as modelled
Site-wide technical audita crawler server, with its licence terms read first
Page speed in a real browsera browser server, after reading what it exposes

Two or three servers are usually enough. Each one adds tools to the model’s context, and more tools make a wrong choice more likely.

SEO MCP servers, answered

Is there an official Search Console MCP server?

We found none in Google’s developer, help or blog pages on 8 October 2026. Check again before you decide.

Do Ahrefs and Semrush charge extra for MCP?

Both document no separate MCP fee; calls use the API units of your plan.

Can I mix measured and modelled numbers in one report?

Yes, if each column says which it is and gives the source and date range.
